Description
Directions to from the Barn to The Red Lion, Cranford.
This is a cross-country route to Cranford through the fields. It is a lot longer than the direct route and across quite a few fields where the terrain will vary depending on the season, crops or ploughed, and meanders across the fields and past the old quarry at Cranford.
Exit The Barn gates and right and immediately right a
Exit The Barn gates and turn immediately right and right again into the alley.
Pass along Oathill Rise until you see another ally on the left (approx. 100m).
Follow the path straight down through the wooded field until it meets the bottom of Church Lane.
Cross over and follow the tree lined path to a style into the dog walking field
Keep to the path to the right and exit onto Wold Road at the next style, turn right onto Wold Road
Continue on Wold Road for about 3/4 mile over the bypass and up until you reach the gate, please note the road becomes private at this point and you will need to divert along the permissive path to the left.
Follow the gravel track down the hill to a small footbridge and opening in the hedge on the right.
Through the opening follow the path across the fields back up to the road on the other side of the farm buildings
Continue back on Wold Road until the gate at the end where it meets the main road.
To the left of the gate is a footpath that veers back diagonally across the fields towards Cranford, follow this path across several fields until it reaches the disused landfill at Cranford (indicated by a high grass banking.
Follow the path and banking to the left and skirt the perimeter, turning right and then right again.
On the top side a style appears on the left to an open field, cross this field heading towards the A14 .
At the fence before the A14, turn left towards the gate where the path picks up a track.
Follow the track for about 500m, as you get towards the quarry on the left the path splits and veers downwards towards the quarry.
Follow this down where you can pass under the A14 and back up the hill over a cattle grid and then round to the left.
After approx. 100m turn right and follow the track back to the road.
Turn left along the road and enter the village after approx. 100m or so.
Follow High Street through the village and The Red Lion is a stone building on the right about two thirds of the way through the village.
